Children and youth enter foster care for many reasons, including abuse, neglect, family crisis, and the need for additional safety and support. While many youth can return home or live with relatives, others require structured environments and specialized support to stabilize and heal.

The following statistics highlight the need for safe, supportive residential programs that help youth build stability and positive futures.

Understanding the Need

• Approximately 5,000 children and youth are currently in foster care in Washington State.
• Washington State receives tens of thousands of reports of suspected abuse or neglect each year.
• Many youth entering foster care have experienced significant trauma, instability, or disrupted placements.

Foster Care Statistics

Importance of Stability

Stable environments, supportive relationships, and opportunities for growth play a critical role in helping youth build healthy futures.

Youth who experience stable placements and supportive relationships are more likely to:

• Remain engaged in school
• Develop strong life skills
• Build healthy relationships
• Successfully transition into adulthood

Programs that emphasize safety, relationships, skill-building, and community connection help youth develop the foundation needed for long-term stability.

Our Commitment

At Stepping Stones NW LLC, we recognize the complex challenges many youth in foster care have faced. Through our Pathways to Stability Framework, we support youth in developing safety, life skills, educational progress, meaningful relationships, and community connections that contribute to long-term success.

Our commitment goes beyond providing a safe placement. We strive to be a consistent source of support, encouragement, and stability for the youth in our care—walking alongside them as they navigate life’s challenges and celebrating their growth, resilience, and achievements along the way.

We believe that every young person deserves a place where they feel safe, supported, and valued, and where caring adults are present to help guide them through difficult moments and powerful successes. By fostering strong relationships, nurturing personal growth, and building connections with family and community, we aim to help youth move forward with confidence and hope for their future.
